What Wyoming Employers Need to Know About Workers Compensation

Presenter - Joe Underwood, Division of Wyoming Workers Compensation

Wyoming Workers’ Compensation Insurance claims are State funded. As such, all Worker’s Compensation incidents are reported to the State and paid through the State fund. The Human Resource department or Safety Manager is often tasked with the responsibility of reporting and managing workplace incidents and injuries. This presentation will review the general rules of correctly reporting workplace injuries, indemnity benefits paid to employees, medical benefits, and an overview of the litigation process, should one occur. We will discuss best practices for getting injured employees back to work promptly by providing light duty modifications, and safety practices which can reduce or eliminate work related injuries.

HR professionals will have an overview of the State rules pertaining to correctly reporting work related injuries, how to work with the Case Managers and their employees to facilitate appropriate return to work practices, ensuring minimal Workers’ Compensation experience rate modifier increases to save their employers’ money. As well as best practices for returning worker’s to the workplace by implementing safe and productive light and modified duty in order to reduce days away following a reported injury.
