    Employment First

This presentation, Employment First, can be described as a framework for systems change that is centered on the premise that all citizens, including those with disabilities, are capable of full and equal participation in integrated employment and community life. As the Employment First Consultant for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Shaye’s overall goal is to improve the quality of employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities in Wyoming through the establishment of employer networks and partnerships throughout the state. She works with local VR Counselors in each community to provide employers with education and support surrounding Employment First as a state and federal initiative, employment issues related to disability in the workplace, the benefits of hiring people with disabilities, and share information about the types of support services the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation can provide people with disabilities in the workplace and employers.  This program will focus on:

    • Description of DVR and overall goals of the division
    • Overview of DVR process
    • Services DVR can provide based on individual need
    • Services DVR can provide to an employer and their employee with a disability
    • Reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) & examples of accommodations that can be made for an employee with a disability
    • Benefits of having an inclusive workforce, and benefits of hiring a person with a disability
    • Addressing and dispelling myths about ADA and disability in the workplace
    • Other disability & employment related resources available to the employer
