PROGRAM:
Crucial Converstations
Presented by Chris Bosselman, Wyoming Department of Health, Human Resources Office
Introduction of VitalSmarts and Crucial Conversations - including a sample of the training, summary of skills and principles taught in the course, benefits and case studies, and potential roll-out options.
About the Presenter
Chris earned a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communications and Human Resource Development from Brigham Young University. As a requirement of that degree, he served internships with two Colorado companies, Storage Technology, and Ball Aerospace. That led to employment with Martin Marietta Astronautics group, (now Lockheed Martin) where Chris worked for eight years as an organizational development specialist and HR manager. Wishing to relocate to a smaller community, Chris joined the HR department of SafeCard Services in Cheyenne, and later became the manager of the training department. After enduring several rounds of merger and acquisition, the company chose to close their call center here. By then, Chris was the Director of Training and Quality Assurance, and found that he loved Cheyenne more than Trilegiant. Chris decided to remain in Cheyenne rather than relocate to either Houston, TX or Columbus, OH and found employment with the Wyoming Department of Health, where he is now serving as the training coordinator. In this position, Chris delivers training to managers, supervisors, and employees, administers the agency’s learning management system, and coordinates the performance measurement activities of the agency. One of the more popular programs Chris presents is Crucial Conversations.
The costs to an organization from employees who withhold good ideas or information relative to problems can be significant or catastrophic. Giving employees the skills to speak persuasively without being abrasive opens the lines of communication in every direction, enabling the free flow of information to the benefit of all.
